MOUNT SODOM

August 14, 2018
We are proud to present “Mount Sodom”
A new project that we, at Maskit Fashion House, have initiated in collaboration with esteemed
photographer Eyal Nevo as Part 3 of the Desert Trilogy.
 The Embrace
Something deep attracted us to Mount Sodom.
This ancient place near the Dead Sea both attracts and repells. It challenges standard analysis with its conflicting issues: its Biblical story, its textures, pastoralism and destruction, the silence and violence of the landscape, the magical presence of history, and the forceful aesthetics of industrialization. Nature, time, human foibles …
Indecent Assault
Sharon Tal: The collection was conceived and developed during the process of working on the exhibition, when discussions about the ancient story of Sodom provoked emotions and images of once – magnificent landscapes that have now been degraded by industrialization. Together with Eyal, Shavit Wiesel, Inbal Dance Theatre, and the rest of the team, which altogether included 35 artists, we created a new and thought-provoking work that combines fashion and art.
Eyal Nevo: The hatred of the other, violence and culture of lies, are what brought God, whatever that is, to destroy Sodom and kill all its people, people created in His image … Today, sodomy is a formal legal expression throughout the world for a particular sex act. This piece of nature, located at the lowest point in the world, is unique. Sodom’s past and its current situation ignited my imagination in the inner journey I undertook together with Maskit, a firm which also has an iconic symbolism for Israel.
