THE STORY OF MASKIT
Ruth Dayan founded Maskit in 1945. She used her status and position to empower women and aid impoverished immigrants by employing them to design and produce authentic arts and crafts.
In 1955 Ruth met Fini Leitersdorf who became the head designer of Maskit for over 15 years.
The iconic Desert Coat is designed and sold worldwide.
After the Six Day War, Arab-Israeli co existence became one of Maskit’s major sources of inspiration. Collaborations with top fashion houses including Givenchy, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
Maskit is featured in Vogue America 1969 including photo shoots in thedeserts of Israel.
Maskit becomes a global phenomenon, recognized internationally for its exclusivity and quality. Pop up shops are opened worldwide and fashion show are taking place all over the world, including Beverly Hills, California.
Maskit opens the first Israeli concept shop in Jerusalem which included a gallery coffee shop, retail. 10 stores open and over 1,000 people are employed by Maskit.
Maskit is showcased in an exhibition in the Tel Aviv art museum.
